This last week I finally registered for the Sprint Triathalon here in Houston! Jill and Shelly asked me if I was interested the first Tuesday I was here, so I have been "sort of" training since then. But, I figured since it's literally a month away I should probably get going! If any of you have any advice...PLEASE share!! :) I went for my first bike ride Monday, and let me tell you, I can tell it has been a good couple years since I have even set foot on a bike pedal! Gary and Jill are letting me borrow an extra bike they have, and it's one of those bikes with the "skinny" tires! Let's just say I am more used to my old mountain bike! It was a little difficult to get used to at first...especially crossing intersections during rush hour :S...sometimes I felt like I wasn't going to make it in time! haha! But after we go to the trail it was pretty fun. I felt pretty important with all my biking gear on--when Jill and Gary go they are ALL decked out. They gave me a helmet, gloves, a special water bottle--the whole 9 yards. It's amazing how some people ride...we saw 10 people riding in a professional line and went speeding past us probably about 3 times while we were there!
Since Monday night I have been staying at Shelly's house with her and the kids, while her husband, Kelly, was out of town. We had lots of fun taking her son Aidan to the Lego Store and going to the Rainforest Cafe. Last time I was at the Rainforest Cafe was my freshman year of college with Matt, Elliott and Brooke--that was quite the trip, as I'm sure they remember too!! Anyway, at Shelly's we got to build Legos with the kids, watch them swim in the pool, and once they were all off to bed we had some pretty good girl talk over some wine! Although she is 35, she is so much fun to talk with! I had a blast!
A big shout out to Matt's mom, Sharon, my parents, and Brooke for sending me MaiL! It's so great, I feel so loved ;)
Last night was Yorkshire's family dinner and auction. It was crazy to me how much money some parents drop in three hours. One parent bought a permanent parking spot for the next year for $1500, a two night stay at a hotel for $2000, and it just went on and on! They also had a silent auction going on in which parents donated tons of things such as purses, spa days, and paintings--that were outrageously beautiful! Shirley said they typically make about $25,000 just in that one night. CrAZy!
Well, Friday was an interesting day in the preschool. Not five minutes after being there, one of the little boys comes up to me and says very loudy, "Hey, Hey Miss Hoefer, my dad sleeps naked in bed!" It was all I could do not to burst out laughing--but I replied with, "Well, maybe he is more comfortable that way." I clearly didn't know what to say!!! Mrs. Ogle told me I needed to post that on my blog--so here it is ;)
Well--I am half way done with my student teaching here at Yorkshire! And to top it off, I have the relief of getting a 3 on my Teacher Work Sample--the big paper that we teachers have to do during student teaching to let everyone know we are READY to take on this profession! Once I told Mrs. Ogle, she said, "So, would you prefer to teach, or just coast on by now while you're here?" She was joking of course ;) She's so great, I'm very lucky to have such a great cooperating teacher!
I officially have NO weekend plans! It's hard telling what I will end up doing today and tomorrow with all my free time! Hope all my Iowa friends and family are having fun and staying out of trouble while I'm gone! I miss everyone, and think about you often! Wish you could be here! :)
